The reason I’m writing a book on Minimalist Music has more to do with reading than listening. Of course, I care about the music enough that it compels me to think deeply about it, but if what it makes me think and feel had been described and explained in the reading below, that would have obviated this project. The reading was all valuable, and I have not found any book on Minimalist Music that is anything less than thoughtful and informative. But compared to what I think, there’s always been something missing, a definition that doesn’t quite ring true, a connection or context that is off the mark or neglects something crucial. That’s what my book will fill in, a way to hear, see, and understand Minimalist Music that’s different from the current literature.
